The main goal is to traverse across the trap. There is no way to get out backwards. You got into the trap, the only way out is forward. Hit the main button ("Z" on most keyboards) and you'll start to move. Notice that as you hold this button, you'll slowly stretch the gluey strands. Soon the strands will either snap, allowing you to advance forward or you will stumble further into the trap.
You also have a "strength" bar which is tied to your strength stats. If you lose all of your strength while struggling, you'll be forced to give up for a few seconds before you can gain strength again. After you've fallen, it can take a little bit of work to get out. Your ability to get out is directly tied to your strength bar. If your strength bar is low, even if it's not completely depleted, it will take far longer to make progress, and it may even cause you to slip further into the glue. So, it may be in your best interest to release the button, let your strength fully recover, and then you can try again. Sometimes you'll find your predicament a bit hopeless, but sooner or later you'll get out... assuming nobody else catches up with you and captures you.
Finally, the same tools to get you out of slug slime applies here. If you hit the "X" button (which is actually the "A" key by default), you'll use a bottle of glue remover to help you out. If you hit the "Y" button ("S" key by default) you will attempt to rip your clothes out. Just like with regular slime, the less clothed you are, the less ripping out of your clothes will actually get you out of the slime. Once again, having a latex suit and full outfit helps here.
Curing Glue Trap
If you are caught in a curing glue trap, here are some additional tips:
First off, at first, the trap starts clear, so there's no way to know beforehand if a trap has the curing glue until soon after you tread in it, and Jillian proclaims she feels it hardening. Plus, after you've left the trap, it will quickly return to its original composition.
Time is of the essence. Because the glue is gradually hardening, you will find that it is going to get more and more difficult to get out of it. The greener the glue becomes, the stiffer it is. Paying attention to your stamina is especially important, because even if the glue is only halfway cured, and you fall into it, you'll find that it takes twice as long to make any progress. In many ways, even if it hasn't fully cured, but it's 75% of the way there and your whole body is in it, you may already have sealed your fate even though technically the glue isn't as stiff as it can be.
